Hiring BTI Graduates

Employers support BTI in many ways — by offering internships, by hiring our students, and by donating time, dollars, or equipment. In return, they get well-qualified, top-notch talent.

BTI provides well-trained, entry-level lab technicians to employers in the rapidly expanding life sciences sector. The Laboratory Associates Program at BTI is designed to develop well-qualified, GMP-ready, bioscience workers in an efficient and cost-effective manner. BTI offers a rigorous and relevant curriculum developed in partnership with life sciences employers. At BTI, students acquire first-hand knowledge of cGMP goals and rationale, sterile techniques, cleanroom gowning, and good documentation among other relevant laboratory skills. Our program allows graduates to step into professional lab jobs and be productive members of a life sciences team.

Benefits to Employers

Employers hiring BTI graduates typically see significant cost-savings due to lower turnover rates. And that’s because BTI graduates come to employers fully vetted —we’ve gotten to know our graduates over months of working closely together, and can vouch for their unique strengths and capabilities. Employers benefit from hiring job-ready workers who can hit the ground running.

BTI graduates… have the stick-to-it-iveness that makes a great, productive, long-term employee. BTI’s curriculum is relevant and up-to-date, and their grads are well-prepared for entry-level positions in the lab. Because we know the organization, our BTI applicants go to the top of the pile.

It has been very rewarding partnering with BTI over the past few years and having the opportunity to host interns who are recent graduates of the BioSTART to Laboratory Associates Program. We have employed some talented technicians who have contributed greatly to the mission at PathSensors.

Eight years ago, I turned to BTI as WindMIL needed skilled help. We were processing hundreds of samples for cancer research. BTI sent one graduate, Ervin. From the minute I saw him, I knew he would work out. I wanted to grow a company in Baltimore and the graduates of BTI are a big part of our workforce growth. I am a huge advocate of BTI’s program.

Rigorous Selection, Rigorous Training

Our 15-week program (6 weeks of BioStart + 9 weeks of Lab Associates) prepares high school graduates to take on entry-level life sciences laboratory jobs. The program combines classroom instruction, hands-on training, and internships with a focus on making sure graduates have both the technical training and the skills needed to succeed in a laboratory job.

BTI’s hands-on training is geared towards excellence, starting with strict criteria for student selection. We hold our students to high standards of performance, attendance, and professionalism and work with them to ensure they meet their professional goals. Employers who hire BTI graduates are thrilled with their work ethic, skills, and professionalism.

We’ve Done the Hard Work for You

BTI saves companies time and money on recruiting and training  personnel. Hiring BTI graduates results in measurable cost-savings due to lower salaries and lower turnover costs of our non-degreed but specially-skilled workers.

Internships

The capstone of BTI training is the final internship at a bioscience organization in the area. Internships are an excellent way for employers to assess the skill level and employability of interns. If you are interested in offering an internship for a BTI participant at your organization, please contact us at 410-752-4224 or email Dr. Wayne Butscher, Program Director, wbutscher@btiworks.org.
