Starting Strong in 2020

A total of 23 students successfully completed the winter 2020 cohort of BioSTART portion of the BioSTART to Laboratory Associates program. In February they embarked on the Lab Associates portion of the training. Of the 23 students enrolled, 48 percent are unemployed and 52 percent are working, with a  pre-training average salary of $12.40/hour, or $25,792 annually.

From the previous cohort that graduated from BTI in November 2019,  72 percent are making an average of $16.45/hour, or $34,216 annually–with full benefits–in entry-level lab technician positions.

Increases in salary from $25,792 to$34,216 equals a 32 percent increase. But that’s just the start. For 22 years, BTI has been preparing students for successful, satisfying careers where they’re making a real difference in an ever-growing industry.

“The Biotechnical Institute of Maryland staff is something that is incomparable to any school I’ve ever attended. The attention, the dedication, the love and compassion and push for your success from them is more than any student could ask for and I am very excited about my new career path.” —Erica, recent graduate
