BTI Stands for Racial Justice

We are all experiencing a range of emotions following the systemic undervaluing of Black lives and the senseless deaths of so many. These incidents are disturbing and inexcusable, and we feel compelled to speak up in support of equity for all. Together our hearts are breaking, and together we stand with the many courageous voices that have risen up to demand justice and a life free from fear.

At BTI, we are committed to continuing to provide an inclusive, equitable, diverse and supportive environment for all our students, staff and board members. There is no place for any form of racism, discrimination, or microaggressions. At BTI, we believe that all Black lives matter.

While we recognize that the recent killings of George Floyd and others served as the spark to recent protests, we know the issues are far greater. We know that too many of our students have suffered injustice at the hands of an inequitable education system. Too many have suffered from lack of access to healthcare, both during the pandemic and before. Too many have firsthand experience with the ravages inflicted upon a community after decades of systemic oppression, racism and violence.

The staff, faculty and board of directors recommit ourselves, personally and professionally, individually and as an organization, to celebrate, support and amplify Black talent, enterprises and dreams in all our endeavors.

We will seek opportunities to engage in constructive dialogue about structural racism and oppression and the very real traumas they inflict, as we look for ways to become even better citizens in the fight against injustice.

We have never been prouder of our students as they overcome the unprecedented challenges presented during these difficult times. They are truly inspirational, and we hold them close to our hearts as we work together to ensure a better future.

As we move into the future, BTI will leverage its unique resources as a Baltimore-based skills-building organization in life sciences to advocate for racial equity in the biotech sector. Please stay connected with us. We are always here to listen, learn, and support the community we serve.
