Emily English, Ph.D., CEO, Gemstone Biotherapeutics, is a seasoned leader with more than ten years of technical and entrepreneurial management experience. She is a passionate scientist who leads cross-functional teams and drives technologies from concept to launch. Since being recruited to Gemstone, she has aligned the company’s strategy to focus on a lead product in the dermatology space that can deliver significant clinical impact and value creation. She has built a multi-disciplinary team with experts in commercialization strategy, regulatory affairs, and clinical and preclinical research.

With Dr. English as its Principal Investigator, Gemstone BioTherapeutics has also established a robust product development pipeline through non-dilutive grant awards from the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and the Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund. Prior to joining Gemstone , Dr. English was a Program Manager at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory, where she oversaw a portfolio of developmental and operational programs serving U.S. government sponsors. She holds Ph.D. and B.S. degrees in chemistry from the University of Wisconsin – Madison and the University of Maryland – College Park.
